A DAY AT THE BEACH........ Fort Lauderdale
There’s hardly a better way to spend a holiday in Fort Lauderdale then on the beach. It’s only ten minutes from Wilton Manors, and there is plenty of metered parking along A1A, the beach front drive and in several metered lots adjacent to the Beach. Fort Lauderdale’s beaches are clean, and there’s a public outdoor shower for rinsing off that sand and suntan oil every couple of blocks. Best of all are the public restrooms on the South side of the beach just past Las Olas Boulevard (next to the volley all courts). Of course all along A1A are bistros and eateries ranging from grabbing a sandwich to take back to the sand (no alcohol on the beach though)! To a three course dinner are at three star restaurant.
For those of you who love to walk on the beach, Fort Lauderdale’s main public beach goes on for miles, from the South where you can stand on the Causeway and watch the Cruise ships set sail (best on Sunday afternoon around 5), to the northern end where you enter the whimsical high rises all the way up to Palm Beach.
If walking isn’t your thing, there are chair, lounge and umbrella vendors (regulated by the city) all along the beach, and the occasional watercraft rentals as well. Just on the inland side of the South park lot is the marina for day and half day fishing charters.
Best of all after your day at the beach is coming home to your private vacation rental home, mixing an adult beverage and sinking into your spa or heated pool.
Of course the eateries bistros and clubs of Wilton Manors are just steps away, or maybe it’s a night to order an award winning Humpy’s Pizza for a poolside dinner.
